Johannes Rochhausen: Neue Arbeiten.
29 February – 28 March 2020
Opening: 29 February, 6 – 9 pm
Johannes Rochhausen (*1981) studied in Leipzig at the Academy of Visual Arts under Arno Rink and Neo Rauch. In his solo exhibition “New Works”, the “novelty” resonating in the title is realized in two ways. On the one hand, of course, there are recently completed, as yet unknown canvases. On the other hand, however, there are also new pictorial objects that have found their way into Rochhausen’s cosmos.
Johannes Rochhausen, who is known to his public primarily through the thematic concentration on his studio, has expanded the space permanently surrounding him in small steps in recent years. Influenced by studio moves and visits to the workrooms of artist friends, that were characterized by a rather distant gaze despite all their privacy, he now shifted his focus from the total of the studio space to details, still life arrangements and plants in his surroundings. Following the principle of a pars-pro-toto, this clearly more intimate view increasingly wanders out of the window to its immediate neighbourhood.
