In his paintings, Johannes Rochhausen has been capturing the specific mood of his studio for years. Precise and sensitive to details is his gaze, the constant engagement with his immediate surroundings creates a tremendous intensity and atmosphere.
Since 2017 Rochhausen works in a new studio. The light and the architectural conditions have changed, at the same time the protagonists of his paintings have remained the same: painting materials and furniture determine the scenery, but in the recent work also plants are increasingly in his field of vision. Delicate green sets itself off from the earthy hue of the ground and breaks the accurately created vanishing lines of the composition. The rooms appear light and open – a gentle breeze would set the leaves of the potted plant in motion. The early summer light draws warm spots on the walls and the longer you stay in his pictures, the more you start to feel that somewhere a window is open.
