Benjamin Appel: Falten werfen

01 November – 13 December 2025

Benjamin Appel paints space without depicting rooms. Thick layers of oil paint lie on top of each other on his canvases, colour fields pile up into the third dimension and make the paintings appear almost object-like.
Appel captures intense colours in clear, graphic forms. There is a delicacy in the surfaces that only becomes apparent at second or third glance: fine grooves, squeegee marks and filigree wavy lines dissolve the austerity – the viscous materiality of the oil paint becomes tangible and can be experienced as a material.

Benjamin Appel’s paintings, objects and installations have received international acclaim. In November 2025, a work developed for the location in the sculpture garden ‘im Tal’ (Hasselbach / Westerwald) will be unveiled, accompanied by a solo exhibition on site.
He had a major solo exhibition at the MAC (Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Chile) in Santiago de Chile in 2019 and presented a comprehensive installation at the Museum ‘Galerie der Stadt Sindelfingen’ in 2017. He has participated in exhibitions at the Epoch Art Museum (Wenzhou, China, 2020), the Kunsthalle Mannheim (2022), Pifo Gallery (Beijing, China, 2022) and H2 Centre for Contemporary Art in the Glaspalast, Augsburg (2024), among others.
His paintings and sculptures are represented in numerous public and private collections.
